Apartment buildings
Parkstrasse, one of Luther's most beautiful streets, is located in the western part of the town center. On the former church-owned land, Luther Wohnpark GmbH, together with the Wunstorf architects Tschee + Wenskus, developed condominiums in a classic-modern style.
A total of six apartments and a garage complex with six parking spaces and adjoining storage rooms were constructed. One of the goals of the facade design was to make the modern building architecture, in conjunction with the cube-like form, visually appealing to the viewer through the appropriate choice of materials for the facade's surface. This was achieved in an outstanding manner through the interplay of plastered areas with Feldhaus Klinkerslips; the energy efficiency requirements for the building envelope were met by a mineral wool-based external thermal insulation composite system. It is particularly noteworthy that the investor sought to harmonize traditional craftsmanship with modern building architecture through a skillful combination of surface materials. The window elements with their white exterior plaster surfaces and the roof structure represent the modern component. The traditional craftsmanship is embodied in the thin-format Feldhaus Klinkerslips with their distinctive coal slag finish on the brick surface. These specially manufactured brick slips, 14 millimeters thin, were produced using state-of-the-art technology – contrary to the usual quality standards of dimensional accuracy and far below the required tolerances – and fired in a tunnel kiln as so-called "crooked dogs." These very specific thin brick , with their intentionally cupped dimensional irregularities, cast distinctive shadows on the facade, giving it a vibrant appearance. Here, old brickmaking tradition has been superbly combined with modern facade design – a truly unique eye-catcher!
The building consists of two cubes with brick facades, connected in the northern section by a spacious stairwell and separated in the southern section by a glass and plastered surface. The stairwell, with its curved exterior wall, single-flight staircases, galleries, and elevator, connects the apartments and also serves as a space for communication and interaction. The ground floor contains three apartments measuring 66, 84, and 134 square meters, while the upper floor houses two apartments of 123 and 147 square meters. A generous penthouse apartment with a roof terrace is situated atop the cubes.
All apartments with terraces and balconies face Luther Lake. Great emphasis was placed on the privacy of individual residents, and the balconies and terraces were spatially separated while still offering views of the small lake. The exterior walls of the floors consist of 175-millimeter-thick inner walls made of sand-lime brick and 160 millimeters of external rock wool insulation. thin brick articulate the square building volumes, creating a finely detailed facade. The balconies are fitted with solid railings, providing privacy. The interior walls are made of sand-lime brick. The balcony surfaces, like the floor slabs, are constructed of reinforced concrete. The roof structure consists of flat roofs with a ventilated timber joist ceiling and external gutters.
