Technology, processing and construction
DIN EN 771-1 and DIN 105-100 regulate requirements such as compressive strength, water absorption, and dimensional tolerances for masonry bricks. Particularly strict criteria for water absorption apply to facing brick.
The clinkers are laid brick by brick. The facing shell is connected to the inner shell by wall anchors, with insulation in between providing thermal protection. Pavers, on the other hand, are used for floor coverings.
A load-bearing backing masonry of calcium silicate, perforated bricks, or aerated concrete is customary, which together with insulation and an air layer forms the double-shell system.
