In the heart of Antwerp, Belgium's second-largest city, another eye-catching building has stood near Richard Rogers' famous Palace of Justice since 2016. The architects Rau and Stramien designed the Catholic University "Karel de Grote," using Feldhausthin brick in combination with other materials such as aluminum and wood for the facade. Seven different thin brick varieties were used, some in a mixed configuration. The installation technique is a particular highlight: six types of bricks were bonded vertically without joints, while the R561DF14 variety was installed horizontally alongside the windows. The Belgian Company Heylen Ceramics handled the tendering process and provided technical support. The result is unique and enhances the beauty of Antwerp!
