Outdoor facilities
With its inclusion in the urban development program "Active City and Town Center," the municipality Bad Laer received a preliminary commitment of urban development funding from the state of Lower Saxony to address the identified need for redesign and modernization in the town center. However, the usual funding rate of 66% (two-thirds) for this federal-state program was not granted in Lower Saxony in 2010. Municipalities that agreed to cover the state's share of 33% (one-third) of the eligible costs themselves were nevertheless able to access federal financial assistance of 33% (one-third). Due to the need for renovation and the anticipated positive effects for the town, the municipality adhered to its goal of revitalizing the town center despite the considerable additional financial burden resulting from this decision. Opportunities also arose for residents. During the construction work adjacent to their properties, they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to carry out their own planned renovations and modernizations more cost-effectively. On the one hand, they were able to take advantage of subsidies, and on the other hand, they could claim increased tax relief for the investments.
